What is a selfie?
A selfie is a portrait photo of yourself that you have taken by yourself. Selfies can be made for many different reasons, they are usually taken to post on social media like Instagram to socialise or seek validation with but they can also be made for other reasons like sending a photo of yourself to a friend as a joke.

Curating an exhibition about Vivian Maier
In this lesson we were given 30 photos that were taken by Vivian Maier and we were told to create an exhibition with those photos.
Me and my group collaborated well, we all got along and finished the work quickly. Biba and Frankie worked on the layout of the photos and I worked on the title and writing. I think we made good decisions and our work looked similar to a normal exhibition however, our class presentation didn't go that well. I struggled with talking. If I had the chance to do this again I would talk more in the presentation.

It looked like an exhibition that would actually be in a gallery and I can see that you have used your experience from going to many exhibitions and drawing from the ones you have seen

AssessmentIn Friedlander's photograph,'New Orleans,Louisiana' 1968, I can see a silhouette in the middle of the photograph which looks to be the photographers silhouette. Next to Lee Friedlander's silhouette, on the left of the photograph we can see a man standing further away from him in a suit with a car behind him. This photo that Friedlander took looks like all of it is a reflection that he got off a window. The reflection looks strong and opaque so this means that Friedlander took this photo on a sunny day. Friedlander's photograph is kind of a mirror selfie because you can see that on Friedlander's silhouettes shoulder you can see another type of reflection. It's a white square with a little person inside the square. In Woodman's photograph I can see a doorway in the middle and has two hidden people behind unidentifiable objects. In Josephson's photograph, Chicago, 1980 I can see a hand holding a piece of paper with a square cut out in the middle of the paper, this hand is the photographers hand and we know this because we can see his shadow on the right of the photo. The shadow looks dark and opaque so it was most likely taken on a sunny day. Friedlander's, Woodman's and Josephson's photos all have something in common and that is the fact that they are all in black and white and have people in their photos. However, Woodman's photograph is not a self portrait but Friedlander's an Josephson's is a self portrait .

In Friedlander's photo we can see a bit of the photo where it is not a reflection,(near the bottom). That bottom bit from Friedlander's photograph helps frame the photo a bit better. In Woodman's photograph the walls on the left and right edge help frame here photo and draw attention to what is going on in the muddle where the doorway is placed. in Josephson's photo there isn't really anything that is helping the freak the white picture but instead it's the paper that Josephson's holding that helps frame a bit from the whole photo which turned out to be the hand that belongs to the person who is in the car. All of the photographers have used framing in their photos, just in different ways.
I was surprised when I realised Woodman's photograph was not a mirror reflection but in fact a doorway that lead into another room. I'm really curious to find out whats inside the other room because we can only see a tiny section of it. I also found Josephson's photo interesting because the first time I saw his photograph,I thought the paper he was holding was a separate photograph he just held out until, I saw the shadow.
I enjoy looking at all the photographs however, my favourite has to be Woodman's photo. Her one is the most dark and mysterious it is also really weird and questionable/For example, why are there two people hidden behind objects and why can't we see their faces? Was this intentional? or did Woodman just come across it and took a photo. This photograph inspired me to make one of my own projects full of photos that are weird and full of illusions.

The Shadow Selfie
Shadow selfies are like normal selfies but instead of reflections, or seeing your actual face in the photos you see your own shadow.
